HOMECOMING | Utah Elk Hunt — Carbon RX-9

There’s something special about returning home, especially when home is the rugged, majestic wilderness of Utah, where the elk roam freely across vast canyons and high-desert ridges. For many hunters, Utah is a dream destination, and for me, it’s where my love for elk hunting began. In 2024, I had the privilege of embarking on a homecoming elk hunt with my trusted Carbon RX-9 bow, a weapon I had come to rely on over the years for precision and performance.

The hunt began at dawn, with the early morning air cool and crisp, typical of Utah’s high-altitude landscape. The sun hadn’t yet crested the mountains, but the first light was enough to illuminate the rolling hills where the elk were likely to be. Armed with my Carbon RX-9, a bow that blends lightweight design with unrivaled power, I set off, ready to face the challenges of hunting in the familiar yet unpredictable terrain of Utah.

This hunt wasn’t just about the thrill of taking down an elk—it was a return to my roots, back to the land where my passion for the sport started. I had spent countless hours in these canyons over the years, learning the movements of elk, understanding their patterns, and honing my skills. But the challenge was always the same—getting close enough to make a clean, ethical shot.

After several days of tracking and observing, I finally caught sight of a mature bull elk. His massive antlers, sweeping wide across his head, were unmistakable. He was feeding in a valley surrounded by dense aspen trees, an ideal spot for an ambush. Using the terrain for cover, I made my way into position, silently and carefully. The Carbon RX-9 felt like an extension of my body, its smooth draw and deadly accuracy putting my mind at ease.

As the bull finally stepped into a clearing, I drew back, took aim, and released the arrow. It flew through the air with precision, striking true. The bull staggered, then collapsed, marking the end of a successful hunt. But beyond the trophy, this hunt represented something much deeper—a reconnection with the land and the sport I love.

The Utah elk hunt with the Carbon RX-9 was a homecoming, both physically and emotionally. It was a reminder of why I hunt and the deep respect I have for the wild places that shape us. This experience will remain etched in my memory as one of the most fulfilling and rewarding hunts of my life.
